What is Cubic Zirconia (CZ) ?

Cubic zirconia (CZ) is a synthetic gemstone that very closely resembles diamonds. Because of its startling diamond-like appearance and inexpensive price tag,it is a highly popular gemstone used frequently in jewelry such as rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants. Although this stone is synthetic, it is inspired by its natural counterpart, zirconium oxide (ZrO2), which was first discovered in 1892 but is too rare to be commercially profitable. Through a series of separate experiments by German and Soviet scientists, zirconium oxide and yttrium oxide were eventually melted together at temperatures reaching 4,982ºF (2,750ºC) to grow cubic zirconia crystals in the laboratory.

What is Sterling Silver Made of ?

Sterling Silver is an alloy made from a mix of silver (92.5%) and copper (7.5%). It is an elegant white colour and a highly reflective metal.  Copper in the jewellery makes silver harder, but gives it a tendency to tarnish/ discolouration. This tarnish or discolouration is caused by storing sterling silver jewellery in the open air and humidity for extended periods of time. Tarnishing is a natural process that is a chemical reaction in the air called oxidation. It first appears as a golden hue on the sterling silver and progressively turns to black.

Caring For Your Sterling Silver Jewellery to Reduce Tarnish 

To ensure that your jewellery is kept looking like new for longer periods it is advised that you store them well. Store your sterling silver in tarnish prevention cloths, small air-tight bags or jewellery boxes. Keep your sterling silver jewellery in a cool, dry place.
