3M 39017 Lens and Hard Plastic Cleaner is the safe, easy and economical way for anyone to improve the clarity of a vehicle's headlight lenses by removing minor yellowing and scratches that can begin to affect the amount of light that is projected onto the road, and so eventually limit what drivers are able to see at night. Designed as a maintenance treatment, the cleaner can be applied either by hand or with the aid of a power tool, holding off the clouding of plastic headlights and tail lights that can happen at a surprising speed. It is usable on clear or colored plastics and its application can be combined with other 3M products for even better results.

Apply By Hand or With an Electric Tool

Possibly the important feature of 3M's Hard Plastic Cleaner is that it can be applied either by hand or with the aid of a power tools like an electric buffer or household power drill. This makes it easier than even to keep headlights and other plastic surfaces on your vehicles clear of scratches and other minor imperfections, maintaining safe and attractive like-new look and functionality. Either method is a simple 5 step process that anyone can follow - these include:

To Apply By Hand

To Apply Using Tools
  1. Apply to small areas, about one to two square feet.
  2. Dispense a quarter size drop of cleaner onto a clean, soft, cotton terry cloth towel. Apply to the plastic surface using a firm circular motion.
  3. Work the area using a firm, circular motion until the cleaner is dry.
  4. Remove remaining film using a 3M Microfiber Detailing Cloth (PN 39016) or a clean, soft, cotton terry cloth towel.
  5. To enhance the finish, use 3M Plastic Polish (PN 39010).
  1. Dispense enough material on the surface to work a two-foot by two-foot area.
  2. Buff area using an air or electric buffer equipped with a 3M Compounding Pad using light to medium pressure.
  3. Reduce pressure when product begins to dry.
  4. Remove remaining film using a 3M Microfiber Detailing Cloth (PN 39016) or a clean, soft, cotton terry cloth towel.
  5. To enhance the finish, use 3M Plastic Polish (PN 39010).
