This readily-soluble form of calcium is equally well-absorbed with or without food. There are many different supplemental forms of calcium, including some very costly ones claiming superior benefit. We find that none are better documented than calcium citrate-malate, which is highly absorbable while simultaneously being safe, well-tolerated, and cost-effective. About 40% more calcium is absorbed from calcium citrate-malate compared to calcium carbonate or milk. Taking calcium in several smaller doses throughout the day as supplied in these tablets produces higher absorption than taking a larger dose all at once.
