What is Maltodextrin?

Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide (chains of dextrose molecules) produced from starch by partial hydrolysis which is absorbed very rapidly. It is a white powder with no sweetness or odor.

Benefits of Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is easily converted in energy for the body during intense exercise as well as raising the insulin response. It is used as both a high energy source and as a source of high quality calories when bulking. Maltodextrin works to shuttle vital nutrients to the working muscles, and recent studies have shown that when taken post-workout with a protein supplement, Maltodextrin can further enhance the recovery protein and increase protein synthesis.

The high glycemic index helps to provide a constant level of energy in time, without creating spikes of drops of glycemia. It has a higher osmotic value than dextrose, which can be beneficial for optimum gastric emptying as well as being gentler on the stomach.
