Lacquer ware production in the Wakasa region of japan began during the edo period in the 17th century. Well known throughout japan as the region that produces the finest lacquer ware in the country, the traditions of the Wakasa lacquer artisans, with their fine craftsmanship and attention to detail, continue to this day. This tray is a departure from tradition for the Wakasa artisans. Instead of the traditional glossy black finish, this tray is finished with a non-slip matte black surface. While the appearance of elegant Japanese lacquerware is present, the slippery surface is not, making it a great choice for parties and catering.
