An Englishman gets shipwrecked in 17th-century Korea in the 2009 MBC drama Tamra, the Island! Based on Jung Hye Na's popular comic, the fusion period drama revolves around the adventures that unfold when a young British castaway, an exiled noble, and a female diver cross paths on the island of Tamra (present-day Jeju). Produced by Group Eight and directed by Yoon Sang Ho (The Legend), the charming romantic comedy of errors is headlined by a cast of rising stars - Seo Woo (Crush & Blush), Im Ju Hwan (Boys Over Flowers), Lee Sun Ho (The Snow Queen), and Korean-fluent French actor Pierre Deporte.
Young Englishman William (Pierre Deporte) is fascinated with the Orient so when his friend, Japanese sailor Yan (Lee Sun Ho), tells him about a new Dutch sea route to Japan, he eagerly jumps onboard. The ship meets a rough storm at sea, and William gets thrown overboard. He drifts to the island of Tamra and gets rescued by bubbly diver Beo Jin (Seo Woo), who was out scouring for abalone. Intrigued by the blonde-haired foreigner, Beo Jin takes him under her wing and hides him in a cave. William isn't the only newcomer though. Arrogant scholar Kyu (Im Ju Hwan) has been exiled to Tamra, and he's in for a rude awakening. Noble airs won't get him anywhere on the rural island where even a chamber pot is nowhere to be found!
