History of the Monkey Fist:
Monkey fists knots were originally used by sailors to aid in throwing lines from ship to ship or from ship to shore, which is where term sailor's knot has come from. As it is ran between two ships, it can be attached to a net to aid in netting fish. It has many other common names such as monkey foot, monkey paw, slug shots, slung shot, and much more. In the 19th century, monkey fists were commonly used as melee weapons for close encounters.

Present Day Uses:
The monkey fist has many other useful uses such as adding weight to an end of a line, assists climbers by acting as an anchor, used in skydiving acting as a hacky handle, self defense to provide protection, and also as decoration.
