Big Disappointment.12/6/2017Average rating:1out of5stars, based onreviews12/6/2017by JoefishThis set looks like an excellent introduction to gears and I was eager to get one for demonstrating at our LEGO exhibitions. The concept itself is brilliant. Unfortunately the real thing is a complete disaster that never should have made it to sale. You might assume the gears have some sort of fixed base that grips onto the studs below (like a regular LEGO system turntable), then the gear is a freely rotating upper part that won't come away. You would be wrong. The gears just sit loosely over the studs below, so they're free to rotate, but also free to jump off and tip over at the slightest touch; completely unsuitable for a toddler to operate without destroying everything they've just built. This seems a huge missed opportunity to me as a demonstrator and educator; to a child with some emotional involvement in this as a gift I can only imagine the frustration and disappointment. All it would have taken would be to make the gears from two parts clipped together like EVERY OTHER TURNTABLE LEGO HAS EVER MADE and it would have been a truly delightful and educational experience. But they didn't, and it isn't.Written by a customer while visiting shop.LEGO.comComment from -12/13/2017I can definitely understand that through an adults eyes this can be frustrating but it is intended to be a story starter and building experience for our youngest builders. This set has limited clutch power in the gearing system to allow our youngest builders to be successful when building. We recognize that every builder can find joy in any LEGO set but there are limitations. Certain functions might require a higher skill level and therefore might be excluded from sets targeted toward 18 month old builders.Read moreWas this review helpful?Yes (0)No (0)ReportPoor concept3/2/2017Average rating:1out of5stars, based onreviews3/2/2017by Kagg98I completely ditto Miesterdad!! This carousel set is a HUGE disappointment. My 2 1/2 yr granddaughter who will play with Duplos for 30+ mins was done with this set in 5 mins, very frustrated and knocking the pieces on the ground. She could not operate the gears without them falling off.The company says they left the gears like this on purpose?? To introduce a concept? Um what concept? Failure and frustration? That gears don't work? 5 mins of a non working concept doesn't teach much.Is it possible to get friction gears? If so, where? And regardless of whether this was an intentional feature or not, the concept was clearly not field tested on the age range indicated on the box because it's a huge fail.Sorry for the snarkiness, I'm just so disappointed.Written by a customer while visiting shop.LEGO.comWas this review helpful?Yes (0)No (0)ReportRead all reviews
