For centuries the people of Burma have appreciated the benefits of the Thanaka Tree (also spelt Thanakha or Tanakha) or sandalwood tree. To Burmese women Thanaka does not only serve as a natural sun blocker and care cosmetic but also as an organic make up. Especially young women put great value on applying Thanaka in a unique style. Traditionally the Thanaka cosmetic is made by grinding a piece of Thanaka wood on a circular stone called kyauk pyin. The grinded Thanaka bark is then mixed with water until it turns into a creamy, yellowish past. The Thanaka tree has to grow for more than 30 years to unfold its true skin care qualities.

Thanaka has always been a part of Burma's culture and has been referred to in several historical books all over Asia. While the origin of Thanaka as a cosmetic product is widely unknown, it is believed that more than 2000 years ago the legendary queen of Peikthano had already been using Thanaka cream. There are even rumors that Cleopatra could have been using Thanaka since she lived during a time in which oriental-scented woods were very popular among aristocrats.

DIRECTION OF USE
Facial Mask
Mix 1-2 teaspoons Thanaka Powder with the same amount of water until it forms a creamy paste. Apply the cream evenly over your cleaned face.

The mask will dry after 5 to 10 minutes depending on its layer thickness. The mask can easily be washed off with lukewarm water after 20 minutes.

We recommend an application once or twice a week.

Face Powder
After your face has been toned or moisturized use a big powder brush to gently puff the Thanaka Powder over your face in circular motions.

Make sure to tap the powder brush on the edge of the jar to get rid of excess face powder.

Facial Cleansing
Mix 1-2 teaspoons Thanaka Powder with 3 teaspoons water until it forms a liquid paste. Apply the Cleansing on your face and gently scrub to cleanse your skin.

Wash the Cleansing off your face with lukewarm water. The Cleansing frees your skin from light calluses, excess sebum and dirt particles.
