Thermacell Insect Repellents Use Allethrin for Ultimate Protection The key to creating Thermacell’s unique 15 x 15-foot zone of protection is allethrin.
All devices operate on a single butane cartridge, which heats a repellent mat releasing allethrin, a synthetic copy of the natural repellent found in chrysanthmum flowers. It repels mosquitoes, black flies, and no-see-ums, and are not harmful to humans or pets.
Within minutes after turning on the Lantern or Appliance, the repellent creates a 15 by 15-foot (225 square-foot) area of repellency, the size of an average deck, patio, or campsite.
