Boy did her eyes light up and she was all smiles, when I turned it on for her. This is such a beautiful toy!!! It has mirrors on the inside roof of the merry-go-round and on the center pedestal. The horses on the merry-go-round actually go up and down as they turn around with their riders on their backs. The carousel plays beautiful nursery rhyme songs. You have the option to turn the music off while it is in action and just have the lights on. The swan has adjustable pink wings that can be moved to different positions. This toy is recommended for ages 36 months and above. Probably because as the toy moves around and bumps into things, and it keeps going while in action mode. A baby who is crawling could go after it, but they probably think walkers are better suited for this toy. I would really watch a child with it because I wouldn’t want it to slam it around and break it; because, it’s such a pretty toy to display in their room when not in use. It would be nice if you could just turn on the carousel and watch it, but you have to hold it. You can’t set it down without it moving. It is beautiful just to hold for the baby to watch the carousel go around and listen to the music. I think it would be pretty to have in a room even as a baby and allow it to grow into the toy. You will need to get 3 AA batteries, as they are required (and not included). I would highly advise this toy as a baby gift. It is so pretty to look at. The swan is very ornate with a very pretty design and the crown is also very pretty as it lights up. The wings on the swan rotate, the merry go round has mirrors and it is fun to watch as the children on it are very cute and the horses move up and down with lights flashing underneath. The music is fun to listen to and I was surprised that it has a Christmas song "jingle bells" so this will make a really cute gift for Christmas or anytime of the year. My daughter has so much fun watching it move around on the floor. If it bumps into an object it will reverse and just keep going. She plays with it on the linoleum, tile and carpet. Although it doesn't move well on the carpet she still has fun with it. It does need batteries so be sure to purchase 3 AA batteries. The switch under the swan has the power OFF, power ON without music and power ON with music. The music might be a little loud so if it bothers you just switch it to no music. I can't tell you how many times my daughter has dropped it from our cocktail table and it still continues to work and stay intact. I'm very pleased with it holding up so well with no broken pieces or scratches. This toy is for children 36 months and older.
