This propitious animal is pronounced as [ Pixiu ] in Chinese Pinyin. Pixiu is a mythical god creature in Chinese mythology, with dragon head, horse body and qilin's feet with the shape similar to a lion, beard under its chin, wings at both sides of the chest and can fly. Pixiu possesses mystical power capable of drawing wealth from all directions but it does not have anus, which signifies that money rolls in will not flows out. In addition, Pixiu is also capable of safeguarding its owner and helping its owner maintain fortune. This is the origin of Pixiu's status as a symbol of the acquisition and preservation of wealth.

According to legend, Pixiu was the 9th son of dragon. Since Pixiu violated the law of heaven, the Jade Emperor punished it by restricting its diet to only wealth in all directions and sealed up its anus to prevent Pixiu from defecating. Hence it can only absorb but cannot expel.
