For deep conditioning, strand strengthening and vibrant color without the use of harsh-chemical dyes, try Dosha Elements™ All-Natural & Pure Henna powder.From the crushed leaves of a tropical tree, henna has natural staining properties and is packed with nourishing phytonutrients that fight frizz and seal in moisture for smooth, sleek and beautifully tinted hair. It can be used in DIY conditioning treatments or mixed with other herbal powders, such as senna or indigo, to create vivid color. Below the shoulders, henna is used as a decorative ”stain” to create patterned designs and artwork on the skin in a traditional practice known as mendhi. A henna tattoo, when applied properly, will last approximately three weeks. How to enjoy it:Deep conditioning treatment: In a small bowl, mix ½ cup of henna powder with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and warm milk to form a paste. Apply mixture to dry hair. Let sit for 20 to 30 minutes, then wash clean. Henna hair dye: (Note, henna does not lighten hair but adds pigment to your natural hair color. For deeper shades, other herbal powders may be added. Henna will not stain until its natural dye is released, a process that requires the addition of an acidic liquid, such as lemon juice, and up to 24 hours of wait time.) For a simple henna dye paste, mix henna powder with lemon juice and a few drops of essential oil (if desired) to form a paste. Add water, a little at a time, whisking until the mixture becomes creamy. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and store in a warm place for several hours or overnight. (The mixture will develop a dark brown surface layer.) When ready to use, mix well, then apply the paste to dry hair, starting at the roots and working in thoroughly to the ends. Cover hair with plastic wrap or an old towel and wait 2 to 4 hours, or longer if desired. Rinse clean, shampoo and condition. Let hair air dry. Do not wash again for 24 to 48 hours. Henna body art: Combine ¼ cup of henna powder and ¼ cup lemon juice; whisk mixture to form a paste. Add 1-1/2 teaspoons of sugar and 1-1/2 teaspoons of essential oil (such as tea tree or lavender). Stir to smooth consistency, similar to latex paint. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and store in a warm place for 24 hours. Scoop away top brown layer and discard. Add lemon juice, ¼ teaspoon at a time, and whisk until the mixture becomes creamy. Transfer paste to a henna cone or baggie (cut baggy corner to apply). Decorate skin as desired. Let design dry completely, then cover with plastic wrap or strips of medical tape to protect. (Note, do not worry about smudging. Once henna is dry, the design will stay intact.) Keep the design covered for 6 to 12 hours, or overnight. Remove plastic wrap/tape. If excess henna remains on your skin, use lemon juice or vegetable oil to remove.
