The bristles come in lots of different heights and are flexible. I'm not going to say this is a miracle worker, it doesn't just comb through first time and remove all tangles but it drastically reduces the pain that many previous brushes didn't even touch the surface on. After going through the ends a couple of times and from the roots once, hair is totally manageable. I do tend to lift from the crown and brush my hair in two layers but this brush has no difficulty sweeping through large or small sections. Few strands actually come out which is great as there's been times where large amounts have come out from too much tugging of a brush.
