What is the AB Wheel? The AB Wheel is an inexpensive and compact home fitness product to strengthen and tone your abs. Simply, it's a just a wheel with a handle through it and grips on both sides. However, you will be able to perform both simple and complicated movements on the Wheel to build strength in your abs and back, resulting in a solid core. An AB Wheel works the core muscles in your lower torso, including the rectus abdominis in the stomach area, your hip flexors and the latissimus dorsi, which extend across your back from the pelvis to the shoulder. You can also use the AB Wheel to work not only your entire core, but secondary muscles such as your shoulders, hamstrings, arms and chest.
Types of AB Wheels
Two types of AB Wheel are available. Single AB Wheels have just one wheel, while Dual Ab Wheels have two wheels placed side by side. The only real difference you'll find between a Dual and Single Ab wheel is how stable it feels. The two wheels on the dual version make the roller run slightly more smoothly, while the single wheel version is more likely to veer off course. For beginners, the Dual Wheel may be a better option as you get to grips with the technique. You can later move up to the Single Wheel as the instability of the single wheel will create more challenging workouts, thus making the move more taxing on your core and shoulder stabilizing muscles.

HOW IT WORKS:
The 2 most common exercises of the AB Wheel are the Rollouts and Roll-Ins.
Rollouts
The rollout is the most common Ab Wheel exercise for the abdomen and back. Kneel with the wheel at your knees and roll it forward with your hands as far as you can -- preferably until your chest touches the floor -- then roll it back to your knees.
Experienced exercisers with very strong abdominal and back muscles can do full rollouts. Start in a standing position with the ab wheel at your feet, roll it forward until your body is parallel to the floor, then roll it back to the starting position.
Roll-Ins
This predominatly works the thighs. Strap the wheel to your ankles with your hands on the floor in a pushup position. Roll the wheel frontward, keeping the legs straight and raising your hips to form a sort of body triangle, then roll back to the starting position. To perform an easier version, pull the wheel forward by bending your knees. This method works the thighs but places less strain on the lower back.
