Squid Champong Ramen

This is a re-review ? the last time I had this was probably in 2003 ? when it was review #21. For some reason・ I thought that it (Neoguri as well) had octopus in it. Clearly・ that¨s a squid holding chopstick and wearing clothing. I should note that these days・ I know that¨s a squid ? and that squids don¨t wear clothing. Moving on・

Here¨s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block.

Powder seasoning packet.

Spicy・ red and hot!

The veggie and seafood packet.

Says the seafood component involved mussel flakes and fish cake.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some onion・ odeng・ an egg・ some processed cheese・ some splashes of Tabasco Buffalo Style hot sauce and a little bit of Ajishima Kimchi Furikake. The noodles are nice and wide ? they sucked up the broth very nicely and are slightly chewier than the last few Nongshim varieties I¨ve had. The broth is great ? very very spicy and has a kind of seafood tomato soup kind of sense to it. Very good! The veggies / fish components aren¨t bad ? all in all a great pack of noodles! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars!?

Samyang Kimchi Ramen

Country of origin: Korea
Bought at: Tokyo Asian Food in Hoover・?

Kimchi flavored ramen・ sounds delicious right? Actually I¨ve never eaten kimchi・ and until recently I had no idea what kimchi actually is. Turns out it¨s the potatoes of Korean food・ and goes with just about any Korean meal. It¨s pickled vegetables・ usually cabbage. Doesn¨t exactly sound good・ but I do like vinegary tasting stuff・ so we press on!

One thing I really like about Samyang noodles is that you get a bigass block o¨ noodles in most if not all of their ramen packs. The noodles are always good quality・ too and have a pleasant texture. In this package you also get a package of soup base which smells very peppery? and is the color of paprika as well as a package of ^FLAKE. ̄ Man・ some flake sure sounds good right now・ it¨s flakes of dehydrated cabbage and scallions. Alright・ let¨s give it a try. When you¨re cooking these the noodle block is bigger than normal so I microwaved this one for 4 1/2 minutes and the texture of the noodles was about perfect. Just a bit of advice.

Here¨s the whole shebang. These smell really good! You can see some scallions in the picture and the soup has a nice color. So how does it taste? I like these. The noodles are good quality as all Samyang noodles I¨ve had are and they have enough spice to call it spicy but not overly spicy・ so don¨t be afraid to try these if you aren¨t a big fan of spicy food. As I said before I¨ve never eaten kimchi so I don¨t know what it¨s supposed to taste like but if it tastes like this soup I may have to try it. I¨m giving this one an 8/10.

Yeul Ramen

This is one I¨ve seen on spicy lists before but it¨s been a long time since I sampled it. Those two big peppers on the front look foreboding! I¨m sure it was spicy・ but how spicy? I guess we¨ll have to see! Let¨s have a look at Ottogi Yeul Ramen!

Here¨s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Contains beef. To prepare・ add noodles and sachet contents to 500ml of boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Stir and enjoy!

The enormous noodle block.

The soup base powder sachet.

Has a very spicy scent.

The vegetables sachet.

Looks like maybe green onion and mushrooms.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added mung bean sprout・ egg and white onion. The noodles are very nice ? your garden variety thick South Korean ramyun. There¨s a ton of them as well! The broth had a spicy and beefy kind of thing going on・ typical profile of a South Korean ramyun. The broth was quite spicy・ but definitely haven¨t been neglecting this one for the Top Ten Spiciest Instant Noodles Of All Time list ? however・ it¨s really spicy. The vegetables were a nice touch and of good quality and quantity. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars
