19世紀後半、小さなフランスの製本業者によってうまれたノートブックは一世紀以上もの間作られ、ほとんど形状を変えずに生産してきました。
その間にはヘミングウェイやピカソ、ゴッホ、ブルース・チャトウィンなど、名だたる数多くの人物がこのノートブックを愛しました。
このノートブックは、ブルース・チャトウィン のお気に入りでもあり、彼がこのノートブックを「モレスキン」と呼んでいました。
しかし、1980年代半ばに、このノートブックは次第に少なくなり、そしてついに完全に消えてしまいました。
1997年、「Modo＆Modo」（現MOLESKINモレスキン）はミラノの小さな出版社が伝説のノートブックを甦らせ、特別な伝統を継承するために「モレスキン」を社名に選びました。
「Moleskineモレスキン」はチャトウィンの足跡をたどり、そして、現代の新しい携帯技術を補完する為に欠かせない存在となりました。
世の中の動きを垣間みて、詳細に記録、貴重な経験を紙に刻みながら。
以後、日本でも愛用者を増やしています。
