Water Looks the Same, Works the Different!

For the past few weeks, we have been discussing the importance of drinking water and its relationship with minerals, our body, and growth. Many people know that drinking water is good for health. Now the question has shifted from "why drink water" to "what kind of water to drink."
In fact, people-non-scientists and non-experts-may be less interested to know about the scientific properties and formula of water. Instead, all they want to know is answers to questions such as "What kind of water should we drink? Or "What are the qualities of good water?"
To answer those questions, first thing we have to do is to go over the types of drinking water on Earth-what are the options that we can choose from. The following is the list of water that people normally drink:

Ground Water / Spring Water
Ground water is from an underground source that is under a pressure equal to or greater than atmospheric pressure. Similarly, spring water comes from an underground formation from which water flows naturally to the Earth's surface.

Tap Water
"We'll just have tap water please." This is what we say when we go to restaurant. Do you know what you're drinking? If not, don't be surprised. Tap water is treated with chlorine to destroy bacteria and viruses in water. However, chlorine, which was supposed to protect body from harmful contaminants, can negatively affect our body. This is because when it is delivered to households, tap water can be contaminated by germs from rusty water pipes.

Boiled Water
There are some households that prefer to drink boiled water at home. To destroy germs and bacteria in water, water is literally "boiled." This can be clean, contaminant-free, yet it can be considered as "dead water" since healthy components that our body needs can be removed during the boiling process.

Mineral Water
Walking through the aisle in supermarket, you'll find different types of "mineral water" bottles. How are they different from other water? Mineral water contains at least 250 parts per million total dissolved solids (TDS). It comes from a source tapped at one or more bore holes or spring and originates from a geologically and physically protected underground water source.

Reverse Osmosis Water
According to the documentary called "Water Secret" broadcasted by MBC, majority of urban Koreans drink RO water at home, school and work. This type of purified water (through reverse osmosis system) is "de-mineralized" water. Removing the important minerals such as Calcium and Magnesium, people drinking RO water may suffer from diseases and illness such as osteoporosis and stroke.

Antioxidant Alkaline Water
Antioxidant Alkaline Water is also known as "ionized" water. Through the process of electrolysis, which breaks up large molecules into groups of five or six, normal water becomes Antioxidant Alkaline Water that can be easily absorbed by the body. Also, this type of water is abundant in minerals which help the balance of metabolism.

Have you heard of "dry eye syndrome?"

Waking up in the morning, I have felt the unusual dryness of my eyes. Yes, the season for xerophthalmia has come. The dryness can be a little bothering for some, but for others, such symptom of blurred vision, gritty or scratchy feeling and itching or redness in the eye can affect their daily lives. So, this week's newsletter talks about the causes of dry eye syndrome and provides preventive measures to help them avoid such a hassle.

Prevention is Better than Cure! Water Prevents Eye-dryness!
Here are some of the tips to prevent eye dry syndrome.
1. Stay away from dry environments. Use a humidifier and avoid using air-conditioner.
2. Frequently blink eyes. A person usually blinks eyes in 3 to 5 seconds. However, when a person looks a computer monitor or focuses on something, his or her eyes are kept open for more than 10 seconds. So blinking eyes which produces tears is recommended especially when reading a book or using a computer.
3. Drink an adequate amount of water. We kept stressing that maintaining the moisture in our body is important. In fact, drinking water can be the very basic preventive measure of xerophthalmia. An intake of antioxidant alkaline water can balance the constituents of tears and sustain a healthy layer of tears.
4. Avoid using contact lenses. Contact lenses reduce the sensitivity of cornea and dries eyes. Also, conjunctivis can be developed due to wearing contact lenses. Thus, minimizing its use can help prevent dry eye syndrome.

Water Secret: Water, Minerals and Our Body

On January 27, 2012, Ulsan MBC (Moonhwa Broadcasting Center) showed a documentary titled, "Water Secret." The documentary, which focused on the effects of RO(Reverse Osmosis) Water in human body, shocked Korean households - especially parents- and became an important eye-opening incident for people to realize what kind of water they are drinking.

In one of the experiments shown, scientists tried to test the role of water and minerals on the growth of children. In an urban elementary school in Korea, about 21 out of 31 students (68%) answered that they usually drink RO water, both at home and at school. A hair examination was conducted among 10 of both RO water-drinking students and spring-water drinking students in the rural schools. The examination (analyzed by MEDIMEX, a research institute) was to determine the mineral components as well as quantity in students' body.

As you can see in this chart, 6 out of 10 urban students drinking RO water lackedCalcium in the body, while only 1 out of 10 rural, spring-water consuming children lacked Calcium. The case was similar with Magnesium. This shows that despite the fact that students in the cities live in an environment with abundance of different kinds of foods compared to the ones in the countryside, the reason behind their mineral deficiency is due to the differences in the quality of water they drink every day.
In fact, the research shows that people drinking water filtered through Reverse Osmosis system lack in minerals and become acidic. In fact, researchers do not recommend drinking RO water since the water washes out the minerals that are needed for our body. According to Dr. Ingrid Rosberg (quoted in the documentary) of the International Water Association, "Water without minerals is like rainwater or distilled water, which drains the body of minerals."
We need to pay special attention to children's food and water consumption since it is crucial to their growth. Everyone would agree on the importance of minerals such as Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc in children's development. Thus, we - especially those parents with little kids - should remember that drinking the right water with abundant minerals - filtered through Antioxidant Alkaline Filtration System

Drinking Strong Acidic Beverages and Our Body

People often question the possibility of whether or not strong acidic beverages like cola erode parts of your stomach, intestine and esophagus, resulting in ulcers. The answer is no, and the reason can be explained by looking at the mystery behind the human body.

How does it work inside our body?
For the stomach to properly digest the food, our body needs hydrochloric acid, which requires minerals such as salt. In this process, the sodium carbonate (NaHCO3), which is used as a pH regulator to maintain stable alkaline conditions appear in the stomach. For those who are interested in the scientific formula, it is written as: NaCl + H2O + CO2 = NaHCO3 + HCl.
First, we take food (Na and Cl), drink water and inhale carbon dioxide. In our body, it becomes NaHCO3 + HCl. The NaHCO3 has weak alkali components that yield neutralization when met with HCl (hydrogen chloride). Neutralization between acid and alkaline then removes the toxic property in HCl and turns it into harmless salt water.

Revealing the mysterious process - Homeostasis

Here comes the secret. Our blood system always works to keep the body at the range of pH 7.35 to 7.45. This mysterious process is called homeostasis- a process that regulates body's internal environment and tends to maintain a stable pH condition (30% acidic, 70% alkaline substances). However, balanced state can be disturbed from the strong acids taken. Fortunately human body has the property that naturally goes back to the equilibrium state, maintaining the body's internal environment stable.

However, this does not mean that drinking strong acidic elements is safe and recommendable. People have to keep in minds that when over acidic elements enter the blood stream, the pH balance is destroyed and we eventually suffer from gastric ulcer and other pains caused by strong acidity. Instead, we should watch out the pH level of the food we eat and water we drink, such as the Antioxidant Alkaline Water.

"Obesity or overweight is not a fat problem but it's an over-acid problem”
Robert O. Young PhD, a research scientist and the author of the book, "The pH Miracle for Weight Loss" on his interview with CNN, shared tips on balancing body chemistry to lose weight. He said, "Because our bodies constantly need energies, and there's waste product in energy production, which are acids, if our body does not eliminate acids through urination, perspiration or respiration, that acid gets on our hips, thighs, our waste lines, brain and this is what makes us fat."

The question is, how do we balance our body?
You should know what kinds of foods and drinks make you over-acidic. As we have discussed it at the last newsletter, one should avoid intake of too much acidic foods such as beef, chicken and pork, eggs, vinegar, soy sauce, mushrooms, corn, peanuts, dairy products, chocolate, tea and soda.
The fact is, most Americans’ diet is over-acidic. "If acids are constantly accumulated and not eliminated, they build up in our fatty, connected tissues, and make us fat." Instead, it is recommended to "eat green or good healthy fats from fish such as sea bass, tuna, trout and salmon. Also, drinking Antioxidant Alkaline Water neutralizes our acidity and helps us be healthy and keeps us maintain pH balance.

Love-Hate Experiment: How Words Affect Living Things

Check out our experiment on the relationship between words and water. In our office, we grew two onions for the past 3 months. For the one (left), we gave love and care with encouraging words like "I love you," while the other one (right) heard bad words like "I hate you" every day.
Placed in the same environment with same water and air, the only difference was the words. Look for yourself how words influenced onions. See the water? The onion who was constantly being "hated" turned ugly and dirty.
So, why don't you say "l love you" to yourself and your friends today!?

Do you take Vitamin C? I drink Antioxidant Alkaline Water!

Most people take Vitamin C every day in the form of fruits and vegetables or tablets to maintain health. This is because Vitamin C is known to have the ability to improve the immune system, thereby preventing various diseases such as cold, indigestion, intestine trouble, skin trouble, and so on.
Antioxidant alkaline water has similar effects with Vitamin C. Drinking antioxidant alkaline water helps you restore the balance in your blood. The extra oxygen and electrons in antioxidant alkaline water help neutralize free radicals (active oxygen), preventing damage at a cellular level.
Not only that, as its name "antioxidant” implies, antioxidant alkaline water, just like Vitamin C, contains antioxidant properties that help people live longer and stronger and improves vascular health, preventing the hardening of arteries and heart failure.
So, we should start all drinking antioxidant alkaline water!
