Hot Stone (For Hot Compression)
Why use hot stones?
- Retains heat well so that you do not need to keep reheating during your massage session
- Multiple uses: Hot pack for clearing of blocked ducts, hot compress for sore muscles, etc
What is so special about your hot stones compared with others?
- We import hot stones used by professional SPAS.
- These are polished stones so the surface is smooth and there are no odd sharp ends
What is the difference between the OVAL stone and the MUSHROOM stone?
- The mushroom stone is designed for better grip compared to the oval stone.
- The sharper edge of the mushroom stone can be better used as a 'comb' to rub block ducts/sore muscles
How to use?
1. Place the hot stone in a pot with water covering the stone.
2. Boil for 10 - 15min.
3. Gently pour away the hot water (use a spoon or tongs to prevent the stone from rolling out).
4. Get a towel or hanky large enough to wrap the hot stone, with space to hold (bunch up the towel or hanky).
5. Gently test on wrist or back of hand before applying onto breasts or other parts which require hot compression.
Having breast engorgement or block ducts issues?
BREAST ENGORGEMENT: Heat will cause the area to swell further. You will need to pump or latch to relieve engorgement. A cold compress helps to relieve the pain of engorgement too. Cabbages are known to work great, but they may kill supply for some mummies. A simple cold compress using some cold wet towel should be good enough.
BLOCK DUCTS: Massage combined with hot compression and latching/pumping helps to clear blocked ducts.
- Using hot compression, gently warm up the affected area on your breast.
- With your thumb or the smooth sharper part of the hot stone, massage the lump in circular motion. Go 5 circles clockwise, then 5 circles anti-clockwise.
- Then stroke firmly with thumb or smoother sharper part of the hot stone from the base of the breasts towards the nipple. You may need to use your other hand to hold your breasts firmly to get to the right spot, especially if the lump is deep in.
- Continue to pump or latch at the same time to help clear the blocked ducts.
My block ducts are located just behind the nipple!
Using your finger and thumb in a pincher grip position with the lump between, gently roll towards the nipples to clear these lumps behind the nipples. They should soften and go away with consistent massage.
If it doesn't go off, check for milk blisters or plugged ducts at the nipple entrance. Dead skin should be cleared from the nipples daily. Use organic olive oil or coconut oil, soak a cotton pad (get good quality pads which do not have lint) and place on the nipple between feeds to soften the dead skin. Gently rub away any dead skin before latching/pumping. If you have persistent dead skin stuck in the crevices of your nipples, use a sterile single pack toothpick to gently dig the dead skin out.
*** This should NEVER HURT or cause any bleeding. Please be gentle!
*** Never place the hot stone directly on skin as it may be too hot.
*** Avoid using hot compression on your sensitive nipples. You may cause the skin to burn/peel.
