Detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Junkers Ju 52. Nicknamed "Tante Ju" ("Auntie Ju"), the Ju 52 was a civilian airliner and military transport aircraft of the German Luftwaffe in World War II. Like many World War II German military aircrafts, the Ju 52 begun its career as a civilian aircraft, and the tri-motor passenger aircraft was used by over a dozen airlines including Lufthansa, Swissair, and Eurasia Aviation Corporation. The use of corrugated metal skin made the Ju 52 very rugged and gave the type its bus-like appearance, but the ruggedness came at a cost, as the Ju 52 needed every bit of power from its three large BMW 132 radial engines to fight the constant drag created by its non-aerodynamic shape. The box like fuselage of the Ju 52 greatly improved internal cargo space compared to aircrafts with rounded fuselages, and this feature made it an excellent transport aircraft. The Ju 52 first saw military service as a bomber during the Spanish Civil War and later in the German invasion of Poland, but the type served mainly as a transport aircraft for the Luftwaffe in World War II. This is a rare 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Junkers Ju 52 civilian airliner version, and the kit comes with decal markings for a Lufthansa Ju 52. This Italeri Ju 52 model kit is a must collect item for World War II aviation enthusiasts!
