A1 Application Performance Class is a newly defined standard from the SD Specification 5.1 and 6.0 which not only define sequential Reading Speeds but also mandates a minimum IOPS for reading and writing. Class A1 requires a minimum of 1500 reading and 500 writing operations per second.
The A1 supports the Adoptable Storage feature on Android phones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above version. It will convert your microSD as a part of your internal phone memory.
Adoptable storage formats your microSD card as a part of the system using the Ext4 file system and 128-bit AES encryption. This new partition becomes part of the system and the primary storage location for app data. Where before you might only have had 10-12GB of storage available on a "16GB” phone, you could have around 70GB if you adopt a 64GB microSD card. Data will be distributed to the card and internal storage automatically.
The A1 spec allows the new card to manage random read input-output access per second (IOPS) of 1,500 and write IOPS of 500, so it can quickly open apps and process accompanying tasks, such as audio, graphics, saved profiles and in-app permissions. With this in mind, the new SanDisk Ultra/Extreme/Extreme Pro microSD card with A1 is designed to provide consumers a faster, more powerful app experience using cards.
