And it will.11/18/2012Average rating:3out of5stars, based onreviews11/18/2012by midtempoThese lamps are wonderful. The cloth lampshade is ideal, they look great, and they operate very smoothly. They are perfect for a bedside lamp because you don't have to fiddle for the switch while lying down beside the lamp in the dark. You can use a standard 60-watt bulb and there is no need to buy an expensive 3-way bulb. The main drawback, however, is that when the bulb blows out --and it eventually will -- it will blow the circuit in your touch lamp. This will result in your lamp staying always on or, more likely, it won't turn on again at all. You can either throw out your lamp at this point or do some electrical circuitry repair by replacing the blown electrical component called a "TRIAC." If you already own a soldering iron, this will cost less than replacing the whole lamp (about $1 for the new TRIAC, or maybe $3-$4 if you have to have it shipped) and isn't too hard. Google "touch lamp repair" some time for details if this happens to you. I have arthritis and the touch feature makes access to light on a bed stand or bookcase very easy without having to deal with which side of the lamp the switch is on. After about 5 years, the touch module does burn out and the lamp is still viable with the addition of an in-cord switch for a few dollars. The only reason I did not give this lamp a 5 star rating is because the shade cannot be fixed securely like it was on previous years' models. It appears that the bolt is too long to screw all the way into the metal ball at the top of shade. There is just enough space to allow the shade to wobble which, it appears to me, to diminish the ability of the lamp to respond on the first touch. I kept the lamps because I like the style and the easy access to light, but I do hope that the manufacturer will remedy the problem with the fit of the lampshade.Was this review helpful?Yes (5)No (1)ReportLooks great! It takes several tries to get mine to turn on (tap it once and it flickers, touch it again and it stays on for a few seconds, do a long tap and it will stay on). My husband has the same issue with his. Additionally, after a length of time (it varies each time) the lamp will suddenly shut off. Mine seems to shut off much sooner than his. We have checked to make sure nothing is touching the lamp or cord and double checked the plug to make sure it is all the way in. We still can't figure out why it will suddenly turn off. It claims there are several settings (brighter and dimmer) but I can't seem to get them to work on mine. We love the look and when it works, it is very nice.
