The Arc''teryx Alpha FL 30 Backpack embraces a minimalist design, but that''s not to say it''s a bare bones pack. Climbers need plenty of gear, so the dual haul loops, front bungee system, lash points, and ice axe loops are more of a necessity than luxury. The roll-top closure sports an additional drawcord that lets you expand the pack when you need a little extra room for layers or food. But if you''re wanting to pack light, the top rope strap doubles as a compression cinch to keep those smaller loads from slopping around and pulling you off balance.
Even ultralight packs need a little structure, so Arc''teryx designed the Alpha FL with its AC² suspension system and HD 80 rigid foam backpanel for support and comfort. The body of the pack is composed of lightweight ripstop fabrics that can squeeze up chimneys and drag against ice without shredding, and the webbing waist belt and removable sternum strap increase carrying comfort, without adding bulk. All the external WaterTight zippers keep rain and snow out of your gear, and the seam-sealed construction ensures that prolonged exposure to wet weather won''t leave your sleeping bag soggy and your packed layers soaked.
