In 1964, when new rules were established for drag racing's Super Stock class, Dick Brannan, Ford's Head of Drag Racing, developed the Thunderbolt
Starting with the lighter weight fair lane. Dick reduced the weight even more and added the powerful 427 C.I. Engine for a special car that could win the class
In all, only 100 thunderbolts were made by Ford, split evenly between 4-speeds and automatics
Dick recorded a time of 11.08 seconds at 128 mph as his best in the Thunderbolt
In the end, Ford captured the Super stock title for 1964. But the Glory of the thunderbolts did not last as Drag racing changed in 1965
