Garcinia Gambogia or Tamarind (“Assam”) is indigenous to SE Asia and has been used for centuries by herbalists as well as traditional cooking recipes. Garcinia’s primary bioactive constituent, Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) has been extensively studied for its effects on citrate lyase, which is the main enzyme responsible for the cellular synthesis of fatty acids. Studies indicate that cells may produce fewer fatty acids from carbohydrates in the presence of HCA.
