SIMPLE RECIPES

Sushi Rice
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice (measured with the rice cup that comes with the rice cooker, about 80% of a regular measuring cup)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Mizkan Rice Vinegar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt or to taste
OR
- 1 cup rice
- 1 1/2 – 2 tablespoons Mizkan Sushi Seasoning (all-in-one sushi seasoning)
Instructions
- Cook the rice in the rice cooker.
- Once cooked, transfer the rice out in a bowl and add the Mizkan Rice Vinegar, sugar and salt (OR the Mizkan Sushi Seasoning) into the rice and mix well with a spoon. *add in when the rice is still hot so that the rice can absorb the seasoning
- Let the sushi rice cool to room temperature
- It is ready to be used to make the sushi of your choice

Japanese Garlic Fried Rice: (Serves 1)
Ingredient
A bowl of left-over white rice
1 beaten egg
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped. Make it three cloves if you want it more garlicky.
1 tablespoon of cooking oil
3 tablespoons of Soy Sauce
a dash of pepper
some spring onions/ sakura ebi for garnishing
Method
1. Oil on the wok, fry garlic till fragrant. Add in rice. Stir fry it madly under high heat. Until you feel that the rice are all evenly heat up (about a minute).
2. Add in beaten eggs, stir well. Add in soy sauce & a dash of pepper.
3. Heat off. Dish up. Sprinkle some spring onions and sakura ebi & serve.
Minced Meat Porridge: (serves 4-6)
Ingredient
1 cup rice
7 cups water
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic (about 1 small clove)
1 teaspoon Shaoxing wine
Kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons vegetable or canola oil
2 scallions, chopped (optional)
Method
- Use a big pot or plastic bowl. Add water to rice, stir the rice and water vigorously. Rub the rice grains using the palms of your hands. The water should be murky by now. Pour the water away.
- Repeat the washing until water is clear.
- Let the rice grains stand in the clear water for about 15 minutes (if you have the time).
- Cook 1 Cup of rice with 7 cups of water in the rice cooker
- In a bowl, combine pork, ginger, garlic, Shaoxing wine, 1/4 teaspoon salt, sugar, soy sauce, cornstarch, and oil. Mix well and set aside in the refrigerator.
- Scoop out the portion for 1 and add in the minced pork and simmer until the pork is cooked, about 5 minutes
- Taste and season the congee with salt. Serve immediately with chopped scallions on top (optional).
