I purchased a more expensive microwaveable eye mask which wasn't nearly as effective as this one. The prior one required more time in the microwave; was not nearly as washable and emitted an unpleasant odor when heated. You can heat this eye compress in the microwave for 15 seconds, and the heat will last for about ten minutes. There is no strange odor after heating and it is comfortable to wear over my eyes.
