Bioglo Pore Refiner uses high-performance pore-refining and oil-balancing ingredients for an intensive treatment that reduces the size of pores and controls oil secretion. Gentle and soothing, this treatment contains clinically proven Fomes officinalis (mushroom extract) which has astringent, pore-tightening and moisturising effects to give skin a smoother look and a finer texture without making it feel stripped, pulled or dried out. Pore Refiner also includes Laminaria saccharina (algae extract) to regulate oil production, Retinol palmitate (a form of vitamin A) to exfoliate pores and refine skin, and essential oils to tone skin and prevent skin breakouts.

Enlarged Pores – Causes & Effects

Pores are tiny openings in the skin that allow sebum produced in the oil glands to reach the surface. This oil forms a protective layer over the skin to prevent moisture loss and environmental damage, but if the pores have to deal with more oil than they can handle, they enlarge and become more visible from the pressure of oil secretion.

Further exacerbating the problem, excess oil then binds with dead cells, grime and dirt and starts to clog pore openings, leaving an uneven, coarse complexion. Open pores become traps for debris and bacteria causing skin problems such as whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and even cysts. Pores naturally become larger as we age because oil secretion is affected by sex hormones after puberty and because skin sags and loses its elasticity. Humidity, hot weather and sun damage over the years can also encourage oil glands to overproduce--leading to larger, uglier pore.

• Open pores can't be refined as long as they are clogged with sebum, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria. Clogged pores become enlarged then trap more dirt, then become more enlarged, trap even more dirt, etc. in a never-ending vicious cycle.
