Within a few days, it had aired itself out. I am so pleased with this, as opposed to the other beige, no see through bath mats, that gathered so much scum, underneath. This bath mat, gives me piece of mind, while bathing my elderly father. I like the holes, and the fact that it is big enough to stand on, and small enough, to pick up, and clean, after ever use. I installed it in my tub and expected the odor to disperse. It hasn't and it really is stinky. The mat is kinda small, but it does the trick so I guess I can't complain about that. I don't slip on it. But if you are at all sensitive to strong odors I'd say stay away from this mat. I only hope that the odor leaves it soon.
