Gold Crown and Accessories

(National Treasure No 138, Korea)

- Kaya(5th ~ 6th Century A.D) Gold Crown height 11.5cm(4.5”). Three Kingdoms Period. Hoam Art Museum, 'Kyeonggi-do'

The crown consists of a band ring whore ends are joined by gold string stiching; four ornamental uprights in the shape of a trifoliate plant stalk are equally spared on the ring. The band has two rows of dots punched around the upper and lower edges, and has curved pieces of jade hung with spangles on gold strings around the band ring.

The uprights are topped with bud-shaped sacred balls and have two triangular openings each at the base. The style of the crown structure with its plant stalkl-shaped ornaments is found to be similar to that of Paekche crowns, but different from that of shilla crowns found in 'Kyeongju'.

The accessories include frog-shaped gold figures with curved jade hind legs and heads(the jade heads missing) and gold balls and sphere in various shapes and sizes; there are also gold rings and bracelets with spangles.
