This is the legendary Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate made by Kaj Lange in 1962. It represents: The Little Mermaid, a statue drawn from the Hans Christian Andersen story, which sits at the mouth of the Copenhagen harbour. The plate is in mint condition, but is minus its original box. The story goes, that the reason these plates are so valuable and scarce, is that a ship carrying most of them from Denmark to America sank en route, sending most of the limited edition plate to the sea floor.
