SPICY CARAMELIZED EMPING BELINJO ( 250g)
Emping is the name of a type of Indonesian chips, a bite-size snack cracker made of melinjo or belinjo (gnetum gnemon) nut. It has a slightly bitter taste. The emping snack available in the market can be plain (original), salty or sweet or even a bit spicy sweet.
There are many ways to enjoy this emping. Some people like to eat it as a snack. Some people like to eat it as a condiment with rice and soup.
To get the good quality of Emping Belinjo, most of the production is still by handmade labor process. The Belinjo seeds are sauteed in a medium fire to ease the peeling process whichafter skins of the seeds are peeled off by hand. Each of the seed is whacked with a wooden hammer-like instrument or pressed witha stone cylinder to create flat and rounded emping. It will be then arranged in a tray made of weaved bamboo and sun-dried for a whole day. The handmade labor long process is why emping belinjo price as higher price than other type of Indonesia crackers.
There are two type of emping available in the market. The thin one usually tastes original or salty, while the thick one usually tastes sweet coated with caramelized sugar or spiced with chilli pepper.
At the moment, I only sell Spicy Caramelized Emping Belinjo. Don't worry, it is not extremely spicy. :)
Each piece was made from one belinjo (one whack). The diameter is about 2-3 cm. This what makes our belinjo special and can taste the different with the ones you can find around in the market. Lesser flour were used.
