Dude Wipes is a brand of disposable wipes manufactured by Dude Products, a Chicago-based company.[1] Dude Wipes was launched in 2012 and received the 2013 Visionary Award at the Vision 2013 Consumer Products Conference.[2]

History

The founders of Dude Wipes shared an apartment in Chicago after college. While they lived there, they used baby wipes as an accompaniment with toilet paper in bathrooms. In 2010, they decided to make wipes specifically for the adult male market. They spent the next year in research and design and prepared four pallets of custom-made wipes to sell.[3][4] The product was launched in early 2012 and Dude Products became the first company to introduce wipes for the adult male demographic. They used buzz marketing and Internet sharing to promote the product.[1] Four months later, the product was available in some online stores and retail stores.[3]

The product

According to the company, Dude Wipes are flushable, biodegradable and contain Vitamin E and aloe. Each wipe is packaged individually and is unscented.[1] A single wipe is 44 square inches in size.[5] According to Dude Products, the wipes can be used to clean up faces, hands, and armpits.[6]

Dude Products changes the wipe's package for every new shipment. The package features tweets from product users.[7] In 2014, the company announced that they were launching Dude Wipes Crib Edition.[8]

MTV highlighted Dude Wipes as a top product at the 2013 Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago[9] and the product was featured in December 2013 issue of Maxim.[10] Wide Open Spacescalled it, "a smart new way to stay clean in the outdoors, where a sink and soap are nowhere to be found."[1]

In 2013, Dude Wipes were featured in Complex Magazine's 25 Items Every Man Needs in His Apartment.[11] While reviewing Dude Wipes, Dude I Want That wrote the wipes, "gently slaughter odors and remove dirt (or other substances of similar colors) and replace them with a crisp, masculine scent and spankin' (or spank-worthy) surface area."[5]

On June 14, 2014, Dude Wipes was a Worldwide Trend on Twitter, reaching as high as #3 in the world after a successful marketing stunt with MMA fighter Tyron Woodley.[12] According to Fox Sports, "Dude Wipes was one of the big winners of an otherwise lackluster card."[13]

The episode, entitled “The Clean Hole Alliance”, was a public service announcement about proper bathroom hygiene that featured Dude Wipes and the characters Plip and Plop, played by Rob Dyrdek and Christopher "Big Black" Boykin. In the episode, Rob Dyrdek announced, “I’m fresh and I’m genuinely excited,” after using Dude Wipes.[9]
