Tongkat Ali:

Tongkat Ali is referred to Ali's walking stick in Malay language. It is also dubbed as Malaysian Ginseng and popularly known as Asian Viagra. Another folk name of this plant is Longjack. The scientific name of Tongkat Ali is Eurycoma Longifolia.

Tongkat Ali is flowering plant of the Simaroubaceae family. It is native to the jungles and rainforests of Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia. Tongkat Ali is grown in Southeast Asia near the equator of the original tropical moist forest in the sandy height, up to 12m, trunk diameter of 8-10cm, and can ages and grows beyond 30cm thick. Almost no bifurcation branches, leaves were long at the top of the umbrella. The roots usually will fork, the deepest into the earth up to 2m.

Tongkat Ali has been greatly noted for its amazing medical values in restoring health, strength and vitality. No doubt the entire plant contains medical value, but the roots have been extensively used as traditional and folk medicine.

There are three main varieties of Tongkat Ali that are differentiated by the colour of its root, namely Tongkat Ali Kuning (Yellow), Tongkat Ali Hitam (Black) and Tongkat Ali Merah (Red). Black Tongkat Ali (Polyalthia Bullata) and red Tongkat Ali (Stema Tuberosa) reigns as the most expensive varieties as they are very rare and have more potent medicinal values.        

 

Kacip Fatimah:

Kacip Fatimah which refers to Fatimah betel scissors is the female version of Tongkat Ali which is also well known for its aphrodisiac properties. Another folk name for it is Selusuh Fatimah which translates to Fatimah's childbirth medicine. The scientific name of Kacip Fatimah is Labisia Pumila.

Kacip Fatimah is a flowering plant of the Myrsinaceae family. It is a small woody and leafy plant that can be found widely in the shade of forest floors. They can be found in Indochina, Thailand and throughout Malaysia. It grows wildly in the Malaysian rainforest about 80-100m above sea level. There are 3 different varieties of Labisia Pumila identified which are Labisia pimila var.alata, var.pumila and var.lanceolate.

Kacip Fatimah is rich in phytoestrogens and can regulate the physiology of women effectively. On the other hand, it is well known for its aphrodisiac effect on women, increasing a women's libido. Nevertheless it has other medicinal uses to strengthen, rejuvenate and improve one's health as well as medical ability to treat certain illnesses.                                      

 

 

Consumption Methods for Slices:

1) After chipping, wash the root chips with water.

2) Soak 2g of chipped root in 1 liter of water for 1 hour.

3) Boil and cook for 30 minutes - 1 hour.

4) Remove the chipped root and drink.

 

Consumption Methods for Teabags:                               

1) Place a tea bag into a cup of hot water.

2) Let the bag to sit in the cup for 20 minutes and it is ready to be served.

The juice (tea) may be blended with honey or rock sugar to balance off the bitter taste of Tongkat Ali. You may reboil the root chip and juice for another consumption until the bitter taste has subsided.
