Product Description
United States Strategic Command is one of nine Unified Combatant Commands of the United States Department of Defense. It is charged with space operations, including military satellites, information warfare, missile defense, global command and control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, global strike and strategic deterrence, and combating weapons of mass destruction. Located near Omaha, Nebraska, Offutt Air Force Base is the headquarters for United States Strategic Command. The base began in 1918 as an Army Air Service balloon field but was renamed in 1924 after Nebraska native 1st Lieutenant Jarvis Offutt, a decorated Word War I aviator. Throughout the years the base has adapted to the defense needs of the United States. Minted in solid nickel, and ringed with a bronze braid edge, this coin is dedicated to the men and women of USSTRATCOM and Offutt AFB who fight every day to make the world safe for freedom. The obverse features the United States Strategic Command emblem. The reverse displays the base name ''OFFUTT AFB'' encircled by the logos of all five United States military branches.
