Overview:

Cassia angustifolia is a small shrub 0.6-1.5m high. Leaves are par pinnate, having 3-7 pairs of elliptic or lanceolate leaflets; the base of leaflets are narrow or round, the tips are acuminate, the blade are about 2.5-5cm long and 0.5-1.5 cm wide. The petioles are very short. Flowers are yellow, in terminal racemes, consisting of 5 sepals and 5 petals, sub equal, the uppermost inside the other; 5-10 stamens, filaments thick of unequal length, anthers dehiscing by terminal pores, some anthers abortive; one ovary having many ovules inside. Pods are flattened, about 4-7 cm long, 2cm wide, containing many dark brown seeds.

Leaves:

Used for the treatment of hemorrhoids; as carminative, laxative and antipyretic.

Pods:

Senna pods are more stable and produce less spasmodic pain than senna leaves owing to a lesser content of free anthraquinones, treatment of hemorrhoids, as carminative, laxative and antipyretic.

Senna is the medicinal plant most frequently used in the form of a crude drug as a laxative in several dosage forms. 

It is easily grown in villages and used as a crude drug, which is appropriate for the economy of Thailand.
