Matcha tea whisks have started being made at the village of Takayama, Nara Prefecture, at the request of Jyuko Murata the father of the tea ceremony in the middle of the Muromachi period. The "skill of one hand" spread to the village, and since then the making of tea whisks has been inherited in this area. Even now Takayama, Ryosai Kubo (now 25th generation) continues to make this beautiful Japanese tool.
