Helly · J · Hansen who was the captain of a merchant fleet of Norway.
He retired the sailor at the age of 37 and founded the "Oil Skin Cross & Canvas Factory" in the port town of Moss facing the fjord.
It was about 1877.
This small factory which began manufacturing oil skins for professional is the origin of the wear brand, Helly Hansen now trusted by the sailors around the world.
The first product is a digestion bucket made from sail canvas that soaked with linseed oil.
In the following year, she won the Design Award of Seaman Clothing Department at the exhibition of the Paris Expo.
In 1950, we succeeded in commercializing the world's first complete waterproof wear by welder sewing.
