TESTING LEVELS OF KETONES WITH URINE STRIPS (ACETOACETATE)
One of the ketone bodies, acetoacetate, can be measured
directly in the urine if they are in excessive levels.


As your body begins producing ketones (acetoacetate, in particular)
they will not all be used up. The way to measure these excess amounts
of ketones is through a simple urine strip. These will spill over into
your urine and you can note the level through the change of
color on the urine strip.


HOW TO READ YOUR KETONE LEVELS USING A URINE STRIP:
Taking the "test” is easy enough. All you have to do is pee on the stick,
tap any excess urine off, then wait a certain amount of time
(usually 45-60 seconds) to see if there are detectable levels
in your urine. Refer to the above for amount of ketone bodies
in the urine after a certain time from peeing on the stick. Usually
the darker purple color on the strip, the more ketone bodies.

1) To be effective on the test, do not drink water prior to test.

2) Wet the test strip with urine for 1 to 2 secs.

3) Wait for 45-60 seconds, look for the changes in the colors.

4) Match it with the bottle display of the color shades.

5) Towards darker purple representing more ketone found.
