Rye Bread Mix can be made in bread machines or by hand. Few loaves please a bread lover more than European style, whole grain rye bread. We have formulated a loaf for bread machines and conventional ovens. Contains unbleached white flour, dark rye flour, whole wheat flour, light rye flour, rye meal, evaporated cane juice, gluten flour, non-fat dry milk, active dry yeast, sea salt, caraway seeds, ground caraway, and soy lecithin. Makes one 1½ lb. loaf.
Directions
Baking Instructions: by HAND for Conventional Ovens (This package makes 1 loaf) Locate and Remove The Enclosed Yeast Packet. Add contents of the yeast packet to the mix. COMBINE the Rye Bread Mix, 2 Tbsp Canola (or other) oil and 1 1/8 cups warm tap water. KNEAD 8-10 minutes on a floured surface. Place in a greased bowl, COVER & LET RISE in a warm place until doubled (approx. 1½ hours), PUNCH down, COVER & LET RISE until doubled (approx. 30-40 min). FORM loaf and place in a greased 9 x 5 x 3 bread pan. GREASE top of loaf. COVER with plastic wrap and LET RISE in a warm place until doubled (approx. 45 min). BAKE at 375 for 30-40 minutes. Thump top of loaf. A hollow sound indicates a properly baked loaf. Turn out of pan, cover with a towel and cool before slicing. Keeps best if refrigerated or frozen.
