I have been using this product for over 12 years now. I was thinning before I started using it. I have the genetics to be bald since my father and both my grandparents were bald. I was destined to be bald and when I started using Nioxin my thinning stopped and my hair became stronger. I was lucky that I was able to read the instructions on how to use it properly before a new law said that no shampoo could claim hair re-growth. Now they sell Nioxin as a shampoo and most people shampoo for 1 minute or less which is not long enough. For this product to do its magic you have to lather it and leave it on for at least 3 minutes, more if you can. You can really feel it working when you do this. Then you rinse and put on the conditioner which needs to stay on for 1 to 2 minutes. At first it might irritate your scalp but later your your scalp will get used to it and become healthier.
Does it work? Yes. Where can you buy it? I buy mine at Amazon.com but I've heard Wal-Mart has it as well.
I worked in a salon and I was thinning. I thought "No way can a shampoo regrow my hair." I was thinning so much during beauty school that it became embarrassing. If I hadn't had free license to try anything in the salon I worked, I probably would have never shelled out the cash for Nioxin System 3. But after 6 weeks, I noticed some fullness and baby hairs. After 3 months, it was a considerable difference. It has been about 3 years and I will always use Nioxin.
Pros: It does work (on me at least), the scalp therapy (conditioner) is pretty good stuff and I need a good conditioner, I can part my hair anyway I choose now and I no longer even need volumizing products.
Cons: I can never stop using it. Ever. It does not smell of Candy like other products I envy or admire. It is kind of expensive but my goodness it is worth it.
Now my Mother and Brother-in-law have been using Nioxin and I hear good things from them.

Unlike the earlier reviewer, I have had extremely good luck with this product. My barber recommended this product to me, and I have been using it for just over a year. I don't have the hair that I did when I was 20, but I do have very noticeably fuller and thicker hair. It isn't just fuller and thicker on the back were most hair products work, but it has even given me more along the my previously receding front hairline. I just read the earlier review when I was getting ready to place my fourth order and thought the product deserved an opposing view.
I use this and the Nioxin Cleanser exclusively. Every week I continue to see new hair growth. I am extremely pleased with this product and would highly recommend it to anyone who is losing hair.

My wife has had problems with thin hair for a long time. She has very thin hair and you can see the scalp in some areas. Her hair looked healthy, but she was loosing hair in the shower daily..not just your normal loss. She has tried expensive hair applications with no luck. Her hair was so thin that the extra hair would just slowly come out. After extensive research I found this product. It was very expensive in the salons the I found, so I looked all over the internet and found the best price at my trusted Amazon.com! Since she started using this she has thicker healthier hair. It has also filled in and grown a few inches..its outstanding and I will be making another purchase! I'm glad she finally found something. This product has helped her confidence 10 fold. Now she loves to flick her hair on a regular basis...and I love it too!
Many years ago I began using Nioxin after my began to thin out after having surgery. I bought Nioxin at the suggestion of my stylist and noticed that my hair really did look thicker. My hair got healthier and I forgot about Nioxin until recently, when I started losing my hair again due to medications. My scalp was in terrible condition and my hair had become fragile, dry, thin and was falling out! I found Nioxin on Amazon and ordered it. Instantly, my scalp began to feel healthier again, my hair began to look better and stopped falling out. It worked just as well as it did years ago. I would recommend this to anyone having problems with their hair and scalp. A word of warning however, when you first use nioxin you may notice your scalp peeling (almost like dandruff). I believe that is part of the process of clearing out clogged hair follicles. With continued use, my scalp began to get healthy again. Now my hair is almost back to normal!
