These were fun for her, my 12 year old and myself. The small area on the raised dots would make me not suggest it for younger children. What a great project for a rainy afternoon and we have magnets adorning our refrigerator. They are very proud of their handiwork. We had the 7 yr old, the 5 yr old and the 2 yr old all working on butterfly magnets. The magnets are made of wood and the magnet covers the whole back. It comes with glitter glue, paint, a small paint brush and some little jewels to use to decorate. First my five year old granddaughter made ALL of the magnets in one sitting but she is an industrious and creative girl, and very detail oriented. (Not just a Grandma's opinion!). They turned out quite lovely and made nice gifts. Then I purchased a set for a 15 yr old girl with special needs who shared the set with her 8 yr old friend. They spent a good hour creating pretty magnets. I will say that while there are an adequate number of magnets in the set and esp. for the price, it could use a few more "gems" which are glued on, as they add a very attractive touch. There really aren't enough in the set. However I was dissapointed when I opened the paints and three of the colors were almost dried up. And after my daughter had painted three butterflies, she realized that the magnets on 2 out of the 5 didnt work. My guess is they were put on backwards during manufacturing.
