For hundreds of years, people in Thailand have used fresh organic kaffir lime shampoo to clean their hair and condition their scalp, without help from any other concoctions. And their shining hair has been renowned the world over. Our fresh whole organic kaffir lime shampoo or rather no-poo (as this unique kaffir lime shampoo is suds-free) is created using this same traditional recipe, which is suitable for those who prefer to have nothing to do with complicated, possibly unsafe ingredients in most shampoos, organic or conventional.

Bigger & Better Bottle than Before!

Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo is particularly important to customers suffering from MCS, or multiple chemical sensitivities, as well as those with skin allergies, rashes, ringworm, eczema, and psoriasis.

Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo is completely safe for humans, pets, children, and the planet. It's not tested on animals and free from any animal products or by-products. 100% cruelty-free.

Although the original Kaffir Lime Shampoo had just one ingredient in it:  In our current version, we have added sour oranges to further tone the scalf and condition the hair as well as an herb called Bai Mee to soften and glisten the hair. More over, o
ur organic kaffir limes that are hand-grown, hand-harvested, and hand-made in small batches on an organic farm run by a husband and wife.

This Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo is exceedingly gentle and 100% natural, yet effective. It may take a long while for the residues from previous shampoos you have used to wash away and for the full gentle effect of organic kaffir limes to kick in. You do not need to use anything else on your hair. Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo will balance the pH of your hair naturally. Kaffir lime is also renowned in Thailand for its ability to create lustrous, dandruff-free, shining hair, and prevent gray hair.

Since the skin and scalp can absorb toxic chemicals present in many shampoos, it is important that whatever is used on the hair and scalp be completely natural and safe.

Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo can be safely used as often as needed.

Usage Directions for Organic Kaffir Lime HEAD TO TOE BATH:
SHAMPOO & BODY WASH & CONDITIONER

Shake bottle well. Massage it into hair, scalp or skin; use enough for a good product coverage, usually 2-4 dollops for crewcut hair, more for longer hair. Keep on for 3-15 minutes while you shower or bathe. Rinse thoroughly. Your hair will look, feel, and smell delicious (it may take a couple of weeks for old residues from other products to come off and for your hair to shine). Use as often as you wish. No suds. No need for a separate conditioner. It may also take time to get used to the lack of detergent-suds in our shampoo, but your hair and scalp will thank you for it. Enjoy soft, voluminous hair, without chemicals.
Thank you for supporting small-scale organic farming. Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo can also be left on hair under a towel for an additional 30-45 minutes to deeply condition the hair. Variations in mineral content in water, like hard or soft water, may slightly affect the results of this natural shampoo. Many customers have said that the organic kaffir lime shampoo works great even on their color-treated hair, but we cannot guarantee this aspect of the kaffir lime shampoo's performance.

Our Customers Say:

With three whole natural organic ingredients, our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo is simple, chemical-free, and effective. Give it a few weeks for the residues from old shampoo to wash away, leaving your hair lustrious, full, clean, and soft.
Ingredients: Whole Kaffir Limes (Citrus hystrix), Sour Oranges, Bai Mee (Litsea glutinous).

All from small-scale organic agriculture. No preservatives. Shelf life of one year in a cool dry place. Handmade in small batches right on the organic farm owned by a Thai couple who adhere to an organic lifestyle and practice strict organic farming — all work is done by the two of them, save for some help from neighbors and volunteers during the plentiful harvest season.
SECRET BODYCARE: Apply under the armpit while in the shower for an all-day freshness without any chemicals whatsoever. A customer also has reported that her unfortunate encounter with bedbugs at a hotel ended well when she applied our organic kaffir lime shampoo all over possible affected areas on the body and leave on for 30 minutes. She got new clothes and left the whole sorry business behind as a sorry memory. But the organic kafir lime eliminated the need to go the "delicing powder" route. Our Organic Kaffir Lime Shampoo can also be applied directly on the skin areas affected with psoriasis, eczema, or ringworm. Leave on for 5-15 minutes and rinse off. The gentle acidity of the kaffir lime counteracts the fungal and bacterial growth associated with these skin conditions and may help to alleviate or eliminate the conditions with regular use. Many customers report that itching stops almost immediately. Use in conjunction with our 100% Witch Hazel Toner for even better results.

MEET THE MAKER: HAPPY EARTH FARM

Happy Earth is a small organic farm and learning center based in Uthaitani, a rural province four hours from Bangkok by car. At our family farm, you can find a variety of seasonal crops such as corn, mung beans, sesame, kaffir lime, and rice. The farm is also home to 18 chickens, 4 ducks, 3 geese, 3 dogs, and 7 cats. Since 2005 we have been committed to living an organic, chemical free lifestyle, and to bringing back old farmland wisdom in making body care products the traditional way. We use the harvest from our farm (and sometimes our friends’ farms) to make things like  whole-fruit head to toe bath, rice powder facial masks, or mung bean powder soap. All of our products are 100% natural and contain no artificial chemicals. They are meant to be good for human beings, animals, and the environment We hope that with our products, we can bring everyone closer to Mother Earth.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH CHEMICAL SHAMPOO??

Anybody ever told you that when you put shampoo or conditioner onto your scalp, the 20 blood vessels, 650 sweat glands, and 1,000 nerve endings soak in the toxins. The truth is, while you wouldn't ever eat your shampoo, you may actually absorb fewer toxins when you eat something than you do when you apply it to your skin! t takes just a minute or two to give your hair a thorough washing, but when you multiply that by every day, or at least a few times a week, for a lifetime, it adds up to many minutes -- and loads of exposure to the chemicals in your shampoo

According to evidence presented at 1978 Congressional hearings, the absorption of the carcinogen nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA), which is commonly found in shampoo products, was shown to be more than 100 times greater when exposure came through your skin than via your mouth.

And what about your typical shampoo... YES! THEY CAN CAUSE CANCER.

Here are some commons toxins found in your typical shampoos.
  1. Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS/SLES)

Sodium lauryl sulfate is a surfactant, detergent used in thousands of cosmetic products, as well as in industrial cleaners. It is present in nearly all shampoos, scalp treatments, hair color and bleaching agents, toothpastes, body washes and cleansers, make-up foundations, liquid hand soaps, laundry detergents and bath oils/bath salts. Although SLS originates from coconuts, the chemical is anything but natural.

The real problem with SLES/SLS is that the manufacturing process (ethoxylation) results in SLES/SLS being contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogenic byproduct.

Research studies on SLS have shown links to:

    • Irritation of the skin and eyes
    • Organ toxicity
    • Developmental/reproductive toxicity
    • Neurotoxicity, endocrine disruption, ecotoxicology, and biochemical or cellular changes
    • Possible mutations and cancer

  2. Dioxane

1,4 dioxane, a byproduct of ethylene oxide, received a "high hazard" rating from EWG's Skin Deep, and it is commonly found in shampoo and other personal care products. Even baby shampoo often contains this cancer-causing toxin. On the CDC site, 1,4 dioxane is described as "probably carcinogenic to humans," toxic to the brain and central nervous system, kidneys and liver. It is also a leading groundwater contaminant.

  3. Diethanolamine or DEA

In a recent FDA report, approximately 42% of all cosmetics were contaminated with NDEA, with shampoos having the highest concentrations. DEA also readily reacts with nitrite preservatives and contaminants to create nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEA), a known and potent carcinogen.

  4. Propylene Glycol

This active ingredient is found in engine coolants and antifreeze, airplane de-icers, tire sealants, rubber cleaners, polyurethane cushions, paints, adhesives, enamels and varnishes, and in many products as a solvent or surfactant. And guess what? Despite the fact the material safety data sheet warns users to avoid skin contact with propylene glycol as it is a strong skin irritant and can also cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage, it's more than likely in your shampoo.

  5. Parabens

Parabens, which are used as preservatives, may be listed on the label as methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, propyl paraben, butyl paraben, isobutyl paraben or E216. They have shown particularly troubling links to cancer.

Studies have shown that parabens can affect your body much like estrogens, which can lead to diminished muscle mass, extra fat storage, and male gynecomastia (breast growth). Other studies have also linked parabens to breast cancer, as researchers found traces of parabens in every sample of tissue taken from 20 different breast tumors.

The EPA has linked methyl parabens in particular to metabolic, developmental, hormonal, and neurological disorders, as well as various cancers.

NO POO MOVEMENT!

While many are still not used to applying no foams shampoo for fear of the greasy hair, paradoxically it’s greasy hair that could benefit the most from giving up shampoo. The theory behind the ‘no-poo’ method is that shampoo strips the hair of its natural oils, which prompts the scalp to generate more oils to replace them. This results in oil overload – greasy hair – which we then attempt to ‘fix’ with more shampoo. It’s a vicious circle and quite a brilliant coup for the shampoo industry, because the more shampoo you use, the more you need to use and the more frequently you need to use it.

Left to its own devices or washed with natural substitutes, the scalp eventually theoretically returns to its natural balance, producing enough oil to keep hair soft and smooth without the associated grease-slick. The oils produced by the scalp – notably sebum – keep the shaft of the hair clean, smooth and protected, performing the role of ‘shampoo and conditioner’ far more effectively than the manufactured alternatives. The upshot should be healthier hair that is stronger, thicker and fuller as it is less damaged than shampooed hair.

But until this happy state is reached there is what Aitken Read calls ‘the tricky transition period’ in which the scalp continues to over-produce oils. This doesn’t sound great. Without shampoo to strip them away, there is a risk of greasy, lank hair for a few weeks.
