UV - is used to reduce haziness created by ultraviolet light, to which photographic film and sensors are sensitive, but not the human eye.

• • If the lens is dropped, the filter may well suffer scratches or breakage instead of the front lens element.

• • Filters can be cleaned frequently without damage to the lens surface or coatings; a filter scratched by cleaning is much less expensive to replace than a lens.

• • If there is blowing sand the filter may protect the lens from abrasion from sand

• A few lenses, such as some of Canon's L series lenses, require the use of a filter to complete the weather sealing

 

Circular Polarizer - allows you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, stone, glass etc. They also enhance colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds.

 

Soft -  is used to soften subjects and generates a dreamy haze. This is most often used for portraits.

 

Suitable for any lens with 40.5mm filter size.

To find out your lens' filter size, look out for marking (on your lens or lens cap) like ⌀40.5, which means the filter size is 40.5mm.
