Henna has been used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, and fingernails, as well as fabrics including silk, wool, and leather. The part of the plant that is responsible for that burgundy coloring is lawsone, a dye present in the plants' leaves. When applied to the skin or hair, lawsone reacts with proteins, resulting in a semi-permanent stain. The lighter your hair, the more henna will stain. Henna conditioning & strengthening recipe for all types of hair: Henna Powder: 5 TBSP Amla Powder: 4 TBSP Yoghurt or coconut milk: Add enough to obtain the consistency of pancake batter Black tea: 2 TBSP Lemon juice: 2 tsp 1 Egg white To use as s a hair dye, prepare the mixture the day before and leave to set overnight for the dye to release. Make sure to wear plastic gloves to protect your hands from getting stained. Section your hair and apply it from roots to end. Leave for 2hrs for a treatment and 4hrs for a hair dye . Then rinse with lukewarm water. To dye grey hair brown or black, apply a mixture of black indigo and warm water as a 2nd step and leave for at least 3hrs.
