The D510 has an integrated digital viewfinder (an essential feature for outdoor measuring) with high resolution 2.4” colour display and 4 x zoom. The viewfinder provides a sharp, clear image and makes finding the target easy, even in bright sunlight. The crosshairs on the DISTO display accurately identify the position of the laser dot. After measuring, a screen-shot shows the target point and crosshairs for verification of correct measurement. To cope with the more challenging type of site conditions, the D510 has additional internal strengthening and protection around the measuring module to withstand a drop from 2 metres. Also with an IP65 dustproof / waterproof rating, it can be washed under running water. The D510 has a number of clever features and functions, not least being the fact that measurement data can be conveniently transferred using the instrument’s Bluetooth Smart technology. The free app Leica DISTO Sketch supports the creation of plans on iPhone, iPad or Android devices that incorporate Bluetooth Smart. Dimensions can even be entered onto photographs. Other key features of the DISTO D510 include its 360° tilt sensor which combines the measurement of angles and distances, making easy work of difficult measuring tasks, such as heights of trees, overhead cables and scaffolding; ground profiles, complex heights and height differences; and slope angles and lengths. Also the instrument can display the true horizontal measurement from a measurement taken on the slope, ideal for measuring over obstacles. Even though the D510 is classified for outdoor use, it has a comprehensive range of indoor measuring functions, as well as those for outdoor work. Functions include: addition and subtraction; area and volume; in-built calculator; continuous measuring showing minimum and maximum measurements; unique wall area function for calculation of total wall areas of rooms; a triangle area function for triangular or irregular shaped areas; a stake-out function for marking-out equal distances or two different recurring distances; a timer for delayed measuring, useful for eliminating any movement of the DISTO when measuring long distances or from difficult positions; a memory function for recall of the last 30 measurements; a trapezium function for area measurement of gables, giving roof pitch and slope length; and Pythagoras function for remote measuring of heights/lengths. Measurements are normally from the back of the instrument, but can be switched to the front or to the tripod mounting thread. Other features of the DISTO D510 is the integrated Leica Power Range Technology that ensures consistent measuring performance even in unfavourable conditions. Also, for accurate measuring from edges or corners the D510 has a fold-out end-piece, the unit automatically senses the position of the end-piece and takes this into account when measuring. To prevent inadvertent switching-on of the instrument when not being used, the D510 has a keypad lock. All measurement results (choice of metric or imperial units) are clearly displayed on a 4-line illuminated display. As with all the latest Leica DISTO models, the D510 conforms to ISO 16331-1, an industry standard for laser measuring tools, ensuring the instrument will always achieve its measuring range and accuracy in everyday situations, not just in a laboratory under ‘ideal’ conditions. Despite its comprehensive functionality the DISTO D510 is easy to use, whilst being more than capable of dealing with all measuring applications, irrespective of site conditions. |
