Product Description
Ideal for do-it-yourselfers with lots of friends but little space, this futon sofabed project is a stylish way to keep overnight guests off the floor. Anyone who''s ever tried to sleep on the bars, springs and lumps of a standard convertible sofabed will appreciate how easily this classic Mission-style sofa becomes a firm, comfortable bed. The project is built from standard oak and pine lumber (as pictured; other species will also work). Although careful measuring, cutting and fitting are required, the sofabed is simple enough for most woodworkers. It calls for mostly straight cuts, and all of the curves are traced from full-size patterns. The project is built from four main subassemblies-two slatted mattress platforms and two side pieces with arms-for ease of construction. Simply trace everything onto wood, cut out, sand and bolt the four subassemblies together. To finish, apply stain and sealer and add a full-size (75- by 54-inch) futon mattress. The unit measures 86 inches long by 33 inches tall by 36 inches deep as a sofa; as a bed, it measures 86 inches long by 54 inches wide by 21 inches tall. About U-Bild plans: U-Bild plans are ideal for woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers of all skill levels. Unique ''trace, saw and assemble'' designs feature simple-to-follow patterns (like sewing patterns) that produce professional-looking results.
