No break-in time needed. Only wish it was available in more sizes. When I purchased this, the only choices were 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5. I usually use a size 8 in medium width, but since this boot was reviewed as a wide width I decided to try size 7.5. Fit was slightly loose, but double socks took care of it. Probably a size 7 would have been perfect. This is not why I deducted 2 star from my rating. The reason is that when I opened the shoe box, the new boots were covered in mildew. I know that it is leather, but it should have been checked before shipping. He being 17 apparently liked the boots as he immediately put them on from the mailed box and used that day for work. It snowed the next day and now I now his feet and body are well protected from Michigan winters. His grandmother thanked me for the buy and so all appears well!
