It worked very well. My son wore black clothing and a face mask. This set added flair to the costume. The set is NOT sturdy as a toy. I did not allow my son to take it out to play before Halloween. I expect that the first time he tries to have a sword fight it will break. It is holding up well to lots of play. He absolutely loves it. It is made well. Only problem we have had is the straps get loose on his shoulders. We crisscross it over his chest to help with that.
