  GROWING TIPS

Before planting, wet the soil mix completely so that it is moist (not waterlogged!). After sowing seeds, cover with 1cm top soil and water seeds with a gentle spray of water.

  SUNLIGHT

Can be planted in the ground or in a pot on a balcony, as long as the plant receives direct sunshine for at least 6 hours daily. If potted, use a larger container and make sure the plant does not get root-bound.

   SOIL

Best grown in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Roselles are easy to grow and need lower level of nutrients. Do not over-fertilise; too much nitrogen promotes leaf growth and delays flowering.

   CARE

Prune the tips of branches when plants are 30-45cm tall to promote branching and more flowering shoots. Harvest calyxes by hand when still tender or use garden clippers when stems become hardy. Pick the calyx 'fruits' at the beginning or end of day when temperatures are cooler. The inside seed pod should be still green when fruit is picked.
